Consider adding this to your arsenal to defend against seasonal viruses!

The Nasal Spray That Kills COVID, Flu, And Cold Viruses!

September 30, 20252 min read

I didn't believe it when I saw the report.

But when I saw thelinkto the Journal Of The American Medical Association, I knew it was legit.....

Then I ran out to Walmart and stocked up!

An anti-allergy nasal spray may have surprising antiviral powers.

The Study

A team of researchers testedazelastine, a nasal spray commonly used for allergies, to see if it could help prevent respiratory infections.

  • 450 peopletook part.

  • Half used an azelastine spray three times daily for 56 days.

  • Half used a placebo spray.

Here’s what happened:

  • Only2.2%of the azelastine group caught COVID-19, compared to6.7%of the placebo group.

  • For rhinovirus (the common cold virus), only1.8%of the azelastine group got sick, versus6.3%with placebo.

That’s about athreefold reduction in infections!

What About the Flu?

COVID and rhinovirus have a fragile “envelope” that makes them easier to target. Influenza (the flu) doesn’t have the same vulnerability.

  • Laboratory (in vitro) studiessuggest azelastine has some anti-flu activity, but real-world data is limited so don’t ditch your flu shot!

  • In this trial, flu cases were so rare among participants that the results weren’t statistically conclusive.

What This Means for You

Azelastine nasal spray isn’t a replacement for vaccines or other proven protections. But the evidence suggests it could be:

  • Anaffordable, accessible extra layerof defense

  • Potentially useful duringtravel, crowded events, or seasonal spikesin illness

  • Especially relevant forvulnerable groupswho want more protection

You can find azelastine nasal spray at most pharmacies or online. Look for Astepro or at Walgreen's, it’s just called Allergy Nasal spray.

Unlike all the steroidal anti-allergy sprays I've used, it doesn't make your nose a bloody mess.

This drug has been around for a long time. The company pulled it off the market in 2014 to make room for a newer, improved formulation with a less bitter taste and less drowsiness.

I've been using it for about a month now and have experienced zero side effects.

The Bigger Picture

No single measure is perfect. I haven't had COVID and I surely don't want to get it.

I think of the nasal spray is another layer of protection in my arsenal of protective efforts.

And it's working well for my allergies, too!
